Ronald Koeman Career As A Player

Ronald Koeman was born in 1963 in the Dutch city of Zaandam. He made his professional debut in 1980 at the Groningen club in his country at 17. In 1983 he joined Johan Cruyff's Ajax. With this team, he won a Dutch league championship and two league cups. In the 1986-87 season, he went to PSV Eindhoven. In 3 years, he scored 51 goals in 98 matches and was named the best Dutch footballer twice. He won 3 Leagues, 2 Cups, and the 1988 European Cup. That same year, Ronald Koeman won the European Championship in Germany with his team. He scored a penalty goal in the semi-finals and was one of the orange team's only international title heroes. Additionally, he played the World Cups in Italy in 1990 and the United States in 1994. With the Dutch team, he played in 78 games and scored 14 goals. Already one of the best defenders of his time, he signed for FC Barcelona in 1989. He became the fundamental axis in this team's game system. His powerful and accurate shots allowed him to score 14 goals in his first season.

Ronald Koeman contributed to Barça living one of the best times in its history. He won 4 consecutive league titles with the Blaugranas. After playing 192 games and scoring 67 goals for the Catalans, Ronald Koeman left in 1995. He returned to his country and played his last two seasons at Feyenoord. He retired in 1997 at 34 years of age after scoring 253 goals in 763 games. He became the top scorer defender of all time.

Ronald Koeman Coaching Career

Ronald Koeman began his time as a coach in the 1998-99 season as part of Louis Van Gaal's Barcelona coaching staff. In November 1999, he returned to the Netherlands. There he directed Vitesse, Ajax, PSV, AZ Alkmaar, and Feyenoord, becoming league champion with Ajax and PSV. He was only the second coach to be champion with two different teams in the Netherlands. Moreover, he went through Valencia CF in Spain and managed Benfica in Portugal. Also, he trained Southampton and Everton in England before taking over the Dutch national team.

Ronald Koeman would be with the Netherlands national team during the journey to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, he had to resign from his position to fulfill his dream of managing FC Barcelona. On August 19, 2020, he was presented as a new Blaugrana coach. On this occasion, he will be in charge of the team renewal and put it back on the victories' path.
