The life of a manager of a national team largely depends on performances and results. With desirable results being achieved, a coach can last a long period of time, as seen in the case of Joachim Löw, head coach of Germany, who has somehow been at the helm since 2006. Other managers aren’t so lucky, with negativity and pessimism surrounding undesirable results. Here are some of those who could be out of a job following the World Cup.

Jorge Sampaoli is probably the easiest bet. Considering Argentina’s performances in the group stage in Russia, it has emerged that Sampaoli has effectively been overthrown as far as tactics and selection are concerned for the all or nothing game to be played against Nigeria. It is pretty clear that he will not be with the Albiceleste following the tournament.

Roberto Martinez is another interesting candidate for managers who could be sacked after the tournament. A lot of great things are expected of Belgium at this world cup, boasting a line-up that comprises names like Thibaut Courtois, Toby Alderweireld, Yannick Carrasco, Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Dries Mertens and Eden Hazard. Going forward, one can bet their house on the Red Devils scoring goals, but keeping things tight and organized at the back is a problem that has plagued Martinez’s tactics for a while now. This was typified in the game against Tunisia wherein they scored five but conceded two against the vastly inferior opposition. If Belgium does not have a good run at the World Cup, they could be looking for another candidate to lead this talented group into the next major tournament.

An outside shout could well be Gareth Southgate, who has been getting nothing but praise for the way he allows dynamic players like Rashford, Sterling, Kane, Lingard and Alli to express themselves on the pitch. Despite all this, England tends to choke at major tournaments, and if an early exit happens, then a sacking is also on the cards.
