Manchester United convinced Jose Mourinho is set to quit for PSG… because they cannot compete with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester CityNovember 09,2017 byThesun.co.uk
MANCHESTER UNITED directors fear Jose Mourinho is on his way to Paris St Germain.
There is an increasingly belief among the Old Trafford top brass that their manager is ready to quit next summer and take over the filthy-rich French outfit.
SunSport revealed this week that Mourinho’s representatives have held talks with PSG.
And while the official line from Mourinho’s camp is that their man is committed to United, senior sources are alarmed at the way he has openly flirted with the Qatar-funded club.
The fear among United’s hierarchy is that, despite his immensely self-confident persona, Mourinho fears he cannot compete with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City – either this season or in the future.
Mourinho is demanding further backing in the transfer market despite a £300million investment since he took over in the summer of 2016.
When he first made public comments praising PSG, United directors simply believed Mourinho, who is almost midway through a £45million three-year contract, was agitating for a substantial pay rise.
But now there is a feeling that the 54-year-old’s time at Old Trafford could be short-lived – despite winning the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season at the club.
As well as an astronomical pay deal, Mourinho would also fancy his chance of becoming the first manager to win the European Cup with three different clubs if he moved to the French capital.
Mourinho could even end up in a scrap for the PSG job with his bitter rival Antonio Conte, who is not likely to be at Chelsea next season.
