Pogba is more talented than any of Frances World Cup winners from 1998, says DesaillyJune 12,2018 bysquawka.com
France midfielder Paul Pogba is more talented than any of Les Bleus` 1998 World Cup winning squad, according to Marcel Desailly.
Desailly played for France across a period of 11 years between 1993 to 2004, making 116 appearances for Les Bleus.
In that time, the former Chelsea and Marseille centre-back won both the World Cup in 1998 and then Euro 2000 just two years later in a period of dominance for the French national side.
The home win in 1998 was the last time France won the ultimate prize in world football and now 20 years later, expectations are high for the 23-man squad travelling to Russia for this year`s tournament.
Manchester United star Pogba is a big part of the way Didier Deschamps sets his side up and Desailly has gone on record to say the talent the former Juventus man possesses is better than any member of the France World Cup squad of 1998.
Speaking to Goal, Desailly discussed Pogba`s ability and despite how much pressure is on his shoulders he feels the midfielder can be the difference between success and failure this month.
"He`s more talented than any midfielder of my generation.
"He`s had this pressure around him and his performances for a long time. Everyone knows about his extraordinary potential but I think we`re asking too much of him.
"He can make the difference but other players have to assume the role of leaders, too."
France kick off their World Cup campaign against Australia on June 16th, before facing Peru and Denmark in their remaining Group C fixtures.
